Is Love Enough(8)

By: Darnisha King

Lance stood toe-to-toe with Tre’s 6’5” 250lb. frame and said, “Yeah nigga, I’m Lance, and I’m a need you to watch who you’re calling a bitch.”

“Okay, that’s enough. Tre, you need to go.” I had to intercede because neither of them was backing down.

And with my last comment being said, this nigga instantly slapped the shit out of me, and this time I did fall, straight to the floor.

Lance defended me with a right, left combo. Tre is a big nigga, so he didn’t fall, but you can tell those punches took a toll on him.

They went into an all-out brawl and Lance was fuckin’ Tre’s big ass up! I yelled and screamed with no clothes on, telling these two niggas not to fuck up my house. I had just finished furnishing this shit, and they were not about to stain my suede cream sectional with blood or sweat.

Apparently, my neighbors heard the noise and called the police, because they were banging on my back door.

I ran to get a gown and opened the door. The police had come quickly. This was Oak Park and they didn’t play those city games.

The cops got the two men off of each other and broke the fight up. I was happy that the police showed up when they did, because at that moment, Tre had started to get the best out of Lance.

Lance knows people and it’s a very crazy ass move to fuck with him. He is a good, stand up dude with a good job and shit, but he real in these streets, too.

As the police escorted Tre out, Lance and I sat down on the couch, vouching not to press charges because Lance wanted to handle this on his own.

Once the police and Tre were gone, Lance looked at me and rolled his eyes. He got up and headed toward the bedroom. When he got there, he started to put his clothes on.

“Where are you going?” I pleaded. I didn’t want him to go.

“Brandy, you lied to me. You told me this nigga didn’t stay here, when in fact, he does. You made it seem like you and he were together, but not tough like that and you lied.”

“I can’t fucking believe you,” I started to cry. “The same way you have never given me a reason to not trust you, I haven’t either. That man does not live here. He is my dude, so of course he spends the night from time to time. But since the fight we had last month, that nigga ain’t been SLEEPING here. He come over from time to time, and that’s it.”

Lance just stared at me. He had a way of becoming emotionless at the drop of a hat.

“When I seen you earlier, I was on my way to go and pick him up. But, the sight of you made me lose interest in any and everyone else and you’re trying to walk out on me? I really can’t believe you. I’m crying and shit, telling you that I love you. You asked me to drop you off earlier and I brought you to my crib instead, trying to show you that I wasn’t on that bullshit. I wanted to be with you, no matter what home girl pulled at Fridays.

Do you actually believe I would bring you to MY fucking house if another nigga lived here? You know I’m not a trifling female, but you want to try and play me by walking out and saying fuck me?” I continued to plead with him.

As I pleaded, he just continued to stare. At this point, I couldn’t tell if he believed me or not. But I was tired of begging him. Laying all of my cards on the table obviously wasn’t the right way to go.

“I can’t fucking believe you, I just can’t fucking believe you!” I grabbed my head and yelled some more.

“You can’t believe me? Are you serious right now?” Lance acted shocked that I couldn’t understand why he was upset with me.

“You know what? Leave Lance, just fucking leave. Because this whole lil ordeal gon blow the fuck out of me.”

“Brandy… Brandy… Brandy!” He shook his head in disbelief. “What do you expect me to think after all of this fighting and shit? How am I supposed to feel, when I have told you a million times, how much I miss you, how much I love and want to be with you. I have basically laid my cards on the table for you today. Then, this ole’ stupid ass nigga come in the door talking crazy, ranting and shit about how ‘this his fucking crib,’ saying ‘you his girl.’ All that shit, man come on Brandy, how am I supposed to feel?” he asked, as he plopped down on the bed and waited for my response.
