Lost In Darkness

The Under Series Book 3

Prologue

Senka slammed his door and fell back against it, breathing hard, trying to control the rage he felt bubbling up inside. He balled his hand into a fist and repeatedly punched the back of the door. The door dented inward and wood splinters flew out and fresh cuts appeared on his knuckles. He stopped after a few more punches, but not before he'd caused a significant amount of damage to the door, he then ran his hands down his face as he slumped against the door. He zoned out, staring at a random spot on the floor, re-playing what he had just seen over and over in his head. He closed his eyes and tried to think about something else to calm himself down. All he wanted to do was to go and hunt Jessie down, but he didn't want to end up doing something he'd regret. He knew Ruby would never speak to him again if he did anything to hurt Jessie.

There was a knock at the door and Senka turned his head slightly, listening for any noise on the other side.

“Senka,” Cam called, rattling the doorknob.

Senka groaned and moved away from the door, shrugging off his tux jacket.

“Senka I need to speak with you.”

“Go away.” Senka replied, pulling at his tie to loosen it.

“I'm afraid I can't. I have a pressing matter I need to discuss with you.”

Senka gritted his teeth and took a moment to compose himself before opening the door. He was not in the mood to deal with Cam. He opened the door just enough to look out. Cam stood in his gold suit minus the top hat.

“Can I come in?”

“No.”

Cam ignored him and pushed his way inside.

“What the hell do you think you're doing?” Senka asked angrily.

“Like I said, I have something important I need to talk to you about.”

“Look I don't want to talk about it.” Senka muttered, hanging up his tux jacket on the closet door. “That's not actually why I'm here. Whatever is going on between you two is nothing to do with me. Not unless you did something to hurt her?”

“No.” Senka snapped, searching around his desk. “What's so important for you to drag yourself away from your engagement party?” he asked, lighting a cigarette.

“Something has come up. I need you to travel to the Caribbean.”

“What?” Senka laughed exhaling smoke. “Why the fuck would you want me to go there?” “Rose.” Cam answered, smoothing down his tie.

“What does that have to do with me?”

“She's gotten herself into a situation. I need you to go and sort it out.”

“And why would I do that? Send someone else it's not my problem.”

“I would if I trusted anyone else, and I don't.”

“Why can't you go or send Roman? You could be there in minutes. It makes no sense to send me. I'd have to catch a flight and it would take longer.”

“It has to be you. I'm currently busy with other important things.”

Senka crossed his arms and glared at Cam. “I know what you're trying to do. You want me gone so you can get to Ruby. Cam that's low even for you, making up some story to get rid of me.” “It's no story. Rose is in trouble and I want you to deal with it. I can't send Roman because he'd probably just leave her there, they never got on very well and I don't trust anyone else enough.” “Well whatever it is, it's nothing to do with me. Send someone else.”

“Senka, she asked for you. I need you to go and sort it out, and then bring her back. She doesn't want anyone else.”

“What's the problem? What's she even doing in the Caribbean? Actually no, forget I asked. I don't care. I'm not dealing with this.”

“She was on vacation.” Cam sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “She may have gone over on her current passport and decided to knock back her whole supply.”

“You should have cut her off years ago.” Senka said.

“Senka she's my mother. I may not get along with her but it doesn't mean I'm going to let her rot up there.”

“So she went on vacation and decided there and then would be a good time to get a makeover? It sounds like either you're lying or she's lying. Either way, one of you is trying to get me out of the manor.”

“Senka I'm not lying. I just spoke with her less than ten minutes ago, she sounded really agitated, and I haven't spoken to my mother in years. The only way I know what she gets up to is because Emmett drops in on her now and then. She got stopped at the airport.”
