Threesome Bonds

Threesome Series Book 3

Chapter One

CARA, KYLE AND MAX

The pencil scratched furiously across paper, not stopping even when the cell phone, resting on the table beside it, emitted a loud, familiar tune. The sound stopped, then played again, just as bold and insistent.

Cara Wilson picked it up, distracted, as she continued scribbling out notes and ideas for refining her dissertation. "’Lo?" she mumbled.

"Hey, what’s up?" Her best friend Lynne Morrison’s cheerful voice came over the line.

"Busy."

"Not your paper again," Lynne said in a dismayed, sing-song voice.

"Yup."

"Take a break," Lynne demanded.

"Can’t." There, just one more thing she needed to get down on paper. She had to, or she’d forget to ask her doctoral advisor about it when next they meet.

"Do you know how long we haven’t spoken? One whole month! That’s a travesty, considering we catch up almost everyday--"

"Which has been dialed down to once a week since you met Mark and Ash Thompson."

"That’s true," Lynne said sheepishly.

"And it's more than that. Five weeks, if I'm not mistaken."

"You should know, you math wizard."

Cara huffed a laugh, the sound doing good for her frazzled soul. Maybe Lynne’s call came at just the right time. Maybe she ought to give her tired eyes a break and refresh herself by chatting a bit with her best friend. She did feel somewhat guilty about keeping everyone--especially her boyfriends--at arms’ length during this hectic time.

"How's the boyfriend?" Cara closed her eyes and tipped her head back. Ah, she already felt much better. This was a good idea. She surely could take five minutes.

"Busy," Lynne said, "but Mark and I try to make time for us every night, even one hour is good. We’re discovering that building a relationship requires effort and compromise, give and take…"

Okay, maybe that was a wrong question to ask. Instead of hearing juicy details about Lynne’s threesome with her guy and his brother, Cara was treated to Lynne’s discoveries about relationships that also struck a chord with her.

Because she had been neglecting her boyfriends in favor of her doctoral thesis. She’d realized that recently and had been feeling guilty about it since then, but what could she do? Her deadline for submission was coming up--in five weeks, but was she panicking? Was she panicking? No, no, of course not--and afterwards, there was the defense to prepare for. She’d comforted herself with the knowledge that Kyle and Max had each other. She also tried to join them, as much as she could during the past two weeks, for dinner, but then afterwards, she'd escaped to her study to continue working. Was it enough? Was she not doing her part in this triad? Would they get tired of her absence and leave her?

The doubts assailed her, and as usual, she pushed them aside. She didn’t have time for them.

Lynne was starting to lecture, and Cara didn’t want to hear it, so she asked, "How about Ash? He still continues to join your bed?"

Ash was Mark’s brother, and the two of them shared a close bond, enough that Mark found it fulfilling to share his woman with his brother. Or so Lynne said.

"About once a week," Lynne confirmed. She giggled. "Much as I love Mark, those threesomes are something else--"

"No details, please!" Cara cut in, laughing. Lynne was her best friend and she loved her a lot, but some things should be kept private.

"I wasn’t going to," Lynne retorted. "I was about to say, ‘and you should know.’ How’s your threesome, m’dear?"

"Good, good." Come to think of it, she hadn’t had sex lately. She scrunched her nose in thought. Had it been two weeks? Or three? Two, she decided. There was the carefree, hot, glorious sex-filled week after they'd gotten together, and then two weeks of drought wherein she buried herself in her paper. One month since she'd first met them.

"How come I’m hearing some subtext?"

Trust sharp-eyed, or should it be sharp-eared in this case, Lynne to notice.

"I’m afraid I…well…" There was really no other way to say it. "I wouldn’t know. Too tired and busy lately," she mumbled.
