Chapter 371 - 266: Old Acquaintances Reunite, Another Discourse in a Foreign Land (Part 1)
Everyone fell silent at his words.
Six avatars had been killed by Yi Beidou, and he himself was completely unharmed. This meant his strength was likely even greater than some of the Ancient Ones.
Even within their organization, experts of that caliber were extremely few.
"While Donghua can’t compare to the Starry Sky Country in terms of global influence, the combat prowess of their individuals must also be taken seriously. I suggest we dispatch a squad of the same caliber as the one sent to the Starry Sky Country to make contact with them."
Seeing that no one else was speaking, the young Asian man continued.
"Agreed."
"I’m in favor."
"..."
A series of voices chimed in.
The power Donghua had demonstrated also warranted their serious consideration.
At the same time—whether by someone’s design or not—a video of the battle in front of Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulchre Cathedral began to spread rapidly across the global internet.
In fact, with the recent spate of Saint Realm attacks in the Mediterranean Region, such videos were no longer anything new online.
This video, however, was different.
Because the person in the video was Yi Beidou!
After the incident in Japan, Yi Beidou’s fame around the world had skyrocketed to terrifying heights in a short amount of time.
And ever since chaos erupted in the Mediterranean Region, discussions about Yi Beidou had been ceaseless.
People debated whether he had been seriously injured in Japan, whether he would appear in the Mediterranean Region, and who was stronger—him or the Starry Sky Country’s Devi.
Now, Yi Beidou had answered the expectations of everyone watching by appearing in the Mediterranean Region.
It immediately sparked a firestorm of discussion across the global web.
「Jerusalem. Somewhere in the city.」
A crowd of local residents and tourists had gathered, whispering amongst themselves. The local police had already cordoned off the area, forcing onlookers to keep their distance.
In the center of the cordoned-off area, a mangled corpse lay in the middle of the road.
A few people with Asian features quickly pushed through the crowd, their expressions grim at the sight.
"We’re a step too late again. We just missed him."
The oldest of the group, a middle-aged man, sighed.
They were all intelligence agents from the Special Security Bureau stationed in Jerusalem, currently executing an urgent mission from headquarters.
Their mission was to find a way to contact Yi Beidou and invite him to meet with the other Saint Realm experts to discuss their plan of action.
Unfortunately, Yi Beidou was simply too elusive. Even with a car, they had no hope of keeping up with him in the city.
They had rushed over as soon as they got word, but by the time they arrived, the battle was long over. They hadn’t even caught a glimpse of Yi Beidou.
"Let’s leave for now."
The middle-aged man sighed and led the other man and woman back through the crowd.
"This mission from headquarters is impossible," the young woman said helplessly. "If he doesn’t show himself, how are we supposed to contact him? We’re on someone else’s turf here."
"Let’s just do our best," the middle-aged man said, shaking his head. "We’ll report this to headquarters; they should know how to handle it."
"Are you from the Special Security Bureau?"
Just then, a voice suddenly spoke from beside them in perfect Donghua Language, making all three of them freeze in shock.
They immediately looked toward the source of the voice, only to see that a tall figure was now standing beside them, having appeared without them noticing. His frame was large enough to block out the midday sun.
"Yi... Yi..."
The young woman almost cried out, but she remembered they were still on a public street and managed to stifle her voice.
"Sir, please come with us to a more secure location to speak," the middle-aged man said in a low voice.
"It’s alright," Yi Beidou said. "They can’t see me, and they can’t see you. You were looking for me about something, I presume."
Only then did the three of them realize that despite the people bustling past on the street, not a single person so much as glanced in their direction.
After all, Yi Beidou was now known the world over. If he appeared openly on the street, it would undoubtedly cause a massive commotion.
’The abilities of a man like that are truly unfathomable!’
the three of them marveled.
"Well, Mr. Yi, several of our young Saint Realm experts from Donghua have gathered in Antu City, about a hundred kilometers from Jerusalem, to discuss their next steps. Headquarters tasked us with informing you and seeing if you’d be willing to go."
Since Yi Beidou said it was fine, the middle-aged man no longer hesitated and stated his purpose directly.
"Old acquaintances? It has been a while since I’ve seen them. Very well, I’ll go meet up with them."
Yi Beidou nodded.
’He was confident, but not arrogant. If I want to take part in the clandestine struggle to come, I won’t be enough on my own.’
’It’s not just a matter of being outnumbered; I’d also have a hard time getting timely intelligence.’
’At a time like this, it’s about right to reunite with some old friends.’
’I wonder if they’ve gotten any stronger.’
"That’s wonderful! We’ll arrange a car for you immediately!"
The middle-aged man’s face lit up with joy when he heard Yi Beidou agree.
"No need," Yi Beidou said. "I’ll go directly. It’s faster than a car."
’A car has to deal with traffic. I don’t.’
’A car is limited by terrain and has to make turns. I’m not.’
’And with my current physical conditioning, my speed is likely faster than a car’s anyway.’
"Then I’ll give you the location."
The middle-aged man didn’t press the issue.
"No need," Yi Beidou said. "As long as I know the city, I can find my target. Tell them to wait a while. I should be there in about an hour or so."
’Satellite positioning often isn’t as accurate as my Celestial Demon Sensing, anyway.’
The moment he finished speaking, Yi Beidou’s figure flickered and vanished from before their very eyes like a phantom.
The three of them stood with their mouths slightly agape, looking at each other, at a loss for words.
’An hour? Over a hundred kilometers? With no car, just his own two legs?’
’He was practically a god or a demon.’
But then they remembered that this was the man who had apparently crossed the entire Eurasian continent from Donghua in a single week on foot, and it suddenly seemed less incredible.
"Regardless, he agreed. Let’s report back immediately," the middle-aged man said to the other two, taking a deep breath.
「Not long after.」
「In the Antu City District.」
"Everyone, I just received a notice from our superiors," Captain Li said to Zhou Qingchen and the others after taking a call. "Mr. Yi is on his way to Antu City. He said he’ll be here in about an hour."
"That fast? He just finished a fight. Doesn’t he need to rest?"
Zhou Qingchen looked slightly taken aback.
’Six avatars of an Ancient One... Even for Yi Beidou, that must have been a perilous battle. Whether through physical combat or the use of a Secret Technique, his body must have sustained some damage.’
’The Mediterranean Region is a hornet’s nest right now; you have to stay in peak condition to handle any sudden developments.’
’The fact that Yi Beidou can rush over without even stopping to rest means he couldn’t have been badly hurt in that fight.’
’Killing six avatars of an Ancient One and only walking away with minor injuries?’
Even with their current power, Zhou Qingchen and the others found that a bit too unbelievable.
’Just what level has that guy reached now?’
A look of anticipation gleamed in the eyes of both Zhou Qingchen and Huang Tianhu. Soon, they would get to see Yi Beidou’s current level for themselves.
"Well, well. So many familiar faces. It’s quite lively in here. But it looks like I’m not the last to arrive."
Just then, everyone’s expressions tensed as they heard a voice coming from outside the door.
’That voice, that aura...’
Zhou Qingchen and Huang Tianhu’s eyes narrowed. They hadn’t sensed the person’s presence at all before he spoke.
Meanwhile, Captain Li and the other Special Security Bureau members shot to their feet, their expressions alarmed.
’This was a secret location they had handpicked, with Special Security Bureau members guarding the perimeter! But he hadn’t received any word from the guards about a stranger entering the premises.’
’An intruder?’
"Don’t be alarmed. He’s a friend."
Zhou Qingchen waved his hand, signaling for Captain Li not to worry.
BAM!
The door was pushed open, and a disheveled figure in a jacket, his hair unkempt, appeared in the doorway.
It was none other than Ding Huiyuan.
