Chapter 110: What’s Her Deal?
Chapter 110: What’s Her Deal?
Things were progressing smoothly, Jason was glad that he had passed the test but he didn’t know what was next.
He looked over his shoulder because he was left alone for a bit but Glenn popped out of nowhere to congratulate him.
"I’m so glad you passed!" Glenn exclaimed, showing more excitement than Jason himself.
Jason was startled, he didn’t expect this but he was now welcomed into what looked like a safety zone.
Jason’s tense body loosened, he didn’t know why Glenn was so happy but his energy was contagious.
"Glenn, right?" Jason asked, wanting to be sure that he had the name right.
"C’mon, man! You couldn’t have forgotten so soon," Glenn pouted but Jason hadn’t forgotten.
"I didn’t, I didn’t... I’m just messing with you," Jaon said with a burst of awkward laughter.
He wasn’t about to give off the wrong impression considering he didn’t know the kind of influence that Glenn held in this community.
Jason was worried about the girls because there was no sight of them, he wondered if they even passed the screening process.
"Are you worried about your friends?" Glenn asked, Jason didn’t know he was being that obvious but there was no point in hiding it.
Jason nodded to confirm this but he felt a hard smack on his back and he tilted his head to see if it was Glenn’s hand that was responsible for such a hard smack.
"Don’t worry man! If you passed the screening process, it means the others have a good chance of doing so too," Glenn was giving Jason a form of reassurance that he didn’t need to.
"And if one person doesn’t pass it, you all won’t be cast out of the wall, just the one person that didn’t," Glenn continued.
Jason didn’t know how to feel about this, he didn’t know if he should be relieved or worried.
There was no way he would risk being kicked out if Alison was found guilty.
He believed in second chances but this place had a law that was similar to the world that just fell from what he had seen, there was no way that Allison would go scot-free.
Jason knew he couldn’t interfere, this was one of those things that was out of his power.
"That is a relief, I guess," Jason muttered, realizing that Allison was the only one without a backstory. She was the only one who had a blank state, Lillian didn’t account for another person joining them and it was pointless making up a story for her considering that Carl had already left.
"You must be starving!" Glenn said, bringing an end to the conversation that they just had and starting a new one.
Jason wasn’t hungry but he knew it would be rude to turn him down, his stomach could handle a meal or two.
"Sure thing but I would like to wait for them if you don’t mind," Jason requested to which Glenn let out a sigh before saying,
"Fine, let’s wait,"

The stripping began; Clementine, Rachel, Allison, and Bella stripped. They stood around, each confident in their skin and why wouldn’t they? They all had banging bodies.
Mariam stared at them but the look in her eyes was hard to discern as another lady inspected their bodies carefully for any bite marks.
Bella was worried about Allison because while they might not get along, she was now part of the crew and by that extension, had no choice but to look out for her whether she liked it or not.
Bella, however, noticed something interesting, she couldn’t see any tattoos on Allison.
"They’re clean," The lady said and the ladies were permitted to wear their clothes.
Allison smirked the moment she heard this, she wasn’t stupid and had thought ahead.
She knew that if they were going to another community, there was a chance that this would occur.
She wasn’t about to be caught lacking, she had applied makeup before coming here, and she had on a turtle neck that had long sleeves.
Allison looked over at Bella and grinned, she had passed the single hurdle set for her but she was also aware that there would be problems should they find out.
She needed a more permanent fix to it.
"I wish to formally welcome you all to the community," Mariam said, and this sealed their entry into it.
They walked out of the building to see Jason waiting for them, Rachel was relieved that he was safe, she was glad that they were there.
For the first time since the apocalypse started, Rachel had hope but she wanted to know where her sister was.
"Follow me, the others are waiting," Mariam said but she spared Jason a glance or two.
It wasn’t every day one would see someone this good-looking but that was all.
She led the way and the rest followed, Glenn couldn’t keep his eyes off Rachel.
Jason noticed this but he didn’t give a reaction as they all walked to a building.
The scenery was beautiful, green grass was everywhere.
"We grow our crops here, and the meat we eat is a hundred per cent fresh," Mariam said.
Jason never understood how women could walk in those shoes but his eyes slowly wandered to how her hips swayed from left to right elegantly.
The people around were greeting her with a smile, there was no way she was just a random person or she wouldn’t be getting this kind of attention.
"Mrs. Mariam, it is good to see you’re well," This was one of the many greetings they heard.
"Mrs? She’s married?" Jason thought not that this information mattered but he wanted to know the kind of woman she was.
"Everyone in this community contributes one way or the other, the more tasking and dangerous the jobs, the more privilege the person enjoys. In every society, there is a hierarchy and I don’t delude myself into thinking we are all equal because we aren’t," Mariam spoke with such class that it made the other ladies sound uncultured.
"What do you mean by privilege?" Clementine questioned, she had an idea of these sorts of things and she knew that there had to be a downside to such a thing.
But it was good as it motivated more people to want to go over the wall and raid.
They might be trying to be self-sufficient but they weren’t there yet, not by a long shot.
"They get to select the best of houses in this community, they have access to food of their choice but this isn’t all..." Mariam said, pausing briefly as she drew everyone in.
"... They get access to the best of medicine," Mariam said, glancing back at both Bella and Jason suggestively.
"I see..." Clementine responded; the ladies were yet to choose their roles and this was Mariam’s way of nudging them into taking the more dangerous ones.
Jason had already chosen to venture outside of the walls without even knowing of this and hearing this brought him some sort of relief because it meant it wasn’t all in vain.
One thing was certain, however, this wouldn’t have been possible without Lillain’s quick thinking and there was no way that Carl would have held up the same view if it was Sam or the others he ran into first.
It was good that Rachel left her sister because now they had a strong chance at surviving this apocalypse, a building came into view.
It was different from the rest of the houses around here, it was a lot smaller and looked to be in worse shape.
Jason looked over his shoulder to tell the others to be on guard, he didn’t know what was behind that door but he knew he couldn’t let down his guard, not now.
"We’re here," Marian said to which everyone stopped in their tracks, including her.
"I can’t wait to meet the leader of this place," Allison said randomly.
Jason wondered why she would say something so random, this had the potential of drawing unwanted attention their way.
"You have met her," Mariam said. She was the one who ruled this community and that explained the greetings and why she carried herself with such class.
The conversation came to an abrupt end and they were led inside, Jason noticed that there wasn’t anyone around the house.
He didn’t know if this was her way of showing her that they trusted them but he wasn’t buying it.
Jason was the first to open the door and he expected to see something a lot worse but the sight that his eyes were met with were the children stuffing their faces with food.
Not just any food, cooked meal and Jason’s body finally relaxed.
Rachel was the next to enter because she wanted to see her sister.
The ladies entered the house and Jason, who was still at the door, was about to enter.
"Mrs. Mariam!" A voice called out, Jason knew the voice, it was Gerard.
Gerard caught up with the woman and whispered something in her ear, her face went from neutral to surprised.
She looked up at Jason before looking at the clipboard that Gerard handed to her.
"Jason..." Mariam called out and Jason’s head turned in her direction.
"Yeah?" Jason responded.
"You applied to venture outside the walls?" Mariam wanted to confirm, that she didn’t peg Jason as that sort of person due to how he carried himself, she expected him to be a lot more rigid if he was going to take on such a task.
"That is correct," Jason responded.
"Come see me when you’re done here," Mariam commanded, giving Gerard back his clipboard as she walked away with Gerard following her like a lost puppy.
"Why does this sound like the start of a porno flick?" Jason pondered as he headed inside to go eat.
