Chapter 174: Berserker Mode Side Effects!?
Chapter 174: Berserker Mode Side Effects!?
Jason’s eyes rolled to the back of his head and the aura around him was completely different, there was something feral about him and Clementine found herself taking a couple of steps back.
Jason let out a growl that she couldn’t make out, he sounded like an animal and he looked even worse than when he first used it.
The zombie charged towards Jason and Jason jammed his fist right into the zombie’s guts but nothing happened.
The zombie attempted to grab Jason but Jason kicked its knee, which sent the zombie tumbling onto the ground.
Jason let out another growl, Clementine didn’t know if he had succumbed to the fragment or if something else was happening to him but he was fighting like a wild beast.
The zombie was back on its feet in no time and this time, managed to grab Jason.
Clementine didn’t know if she should join because something told her that Jason couldn’t discern between friend and foe.
She had to be cautious and she risked hitting Jason with bullets so she couldn’t even assist him if she wanted to.
Jason struggled to break free from the zombie, the strength was superior and the zombie lunged forward to take a bite out of his neck.
But something happened that shocked Clementine, Jason took a huge bite out of the zombie’s neck, ripping it open and inadvertently yanking its tongue out of the newly formed hole.
This affected the zombie as the tongue’s sudden retraction caused it to lose balance briefly, weakening its hold on Jason.
Jason grinned as he noticed this, spitting out the chunk of rotten flesh in his teeth before kicking the zombie away to create a certain distance.
Jason wasn’t thinking, he was the embodiment of chaos and would destroy any threat before him.
Clementine was amazed by what she saw, the fact that Jason even thought to bite it was something she could never do in a million years.
They didn’t know how the infection spread but surely, getting the zombie’s fluid in your mouth couldn’t be good but she didn’t know if Jason had ingested it or spat it out.
Jason was scarier than the zombie right now and the zombie charged at Jason once again, it lacked the speed of the one at the hospital and the intelligence.
If it wasn’t for its deformed head, it would have been easy to dispose of but that wasn’t the case.
Jason plunged both of his hands into the wound he had made in the zombie’s neck, it went right through and exited from the back of its neck.
"AAARRGGGHHH!" Jason screamed as he spread his hands apart and ripped his hands apart.
The zombie’s head dropped from its neck and the blood splattered on Jason’s face.
Jason had managed to defeat this zombie with nothing but his hands, Clementine was speechless.
"How’s this even possible?" Clementine asked as she watched Jason apply the finishing touch.
He stomped the head continuously until it eventually caved in but he didn’t stop even when the zombie was nothing but mush beneath his feet.
Jason had a crazed look on his face and this troubled Clementine, Clementine didn’t know why or how Jaosn snapped out of it last time.
"... Jason?" Clementine asked and Jason came to a halt as he slowly lifted his head in Clementine’s direction.
And without hesitating, he charged towards Clementine and she didn’t know what to do as she didn’t want to harm Jason.
Clementine took a deep breath, she realized that her life was in danger after seeing what Jason had done to the zombie.
Jason reached for her neck but Clementine suddenly ducked to the ground and punched him right in his stomach.
Jason felt that even in this state; he didn’t let the pain stop his attack.
He tried to kick Clementine square in the face but she crossed her arms to block it.
"He... is strong!" Clementine thought to herself, that kick definitely stung but she was holding her own against Jason.
Clementine knew his lower body was wide open and performed a sweeping kick before he could retract his airborne leg, this increased the success rate of her counterattack.
She succeeded in sweeping off his feet and Jason’s body hit the ground with a loud thump.
Clementine didn’t hesitate to mount him with a dagger pressed against his neck.
She didn’t know what was going on but she wondered if Jason could even recognize her.
She wasn’t the enemy but she wasn’t going to hesitate to use force to bring him back to his senses.
"SNAP OUT OF IT!" Clementine screamed but all Jason did was grin as he began to lift his head with the dagger digging into his neck.
Clementine knew at that moment that he was lost but there was one thing that she could do.
Clementine managed to knock him out with the butt of her pistol slamming against his forehead.
"I guess not..." Clementine thought, looking at the zombie that he had slaughtered.
She was amazed by how strong Jason was, no this wasn’t strength.
It was recklessness, Jason didn’t care what happened to him as long as he took down whatever it was he was fighting.
The carnage that came with this skill, she had to be careful, he didn’t attack her last time because Chronos was somewhat in charge and aided in this process but who was in charge of his body when he went Berserk?
It wasn’t Jason or he would never even think to harm Clementine so how does this mode function?
It didn’t matter, Clementine’s combat experience came in handy as she easily defeated Jason.
She began to worry what would have happened if she wasn’t here and she also understood that not everyone would be as understanding as she was.
They wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet through Jason if he turned on them.
Clementine sighed as she got up from him, she knew they had to keep going and if she left him here, there was no telling what the zombies would do to him.
Or if another one of these existed, Clementine was a tad bit worried and wondered if things would have been easier if they just stuck with the original group.
She also began to realize that Jason’s ability could be a good deterrent to hordes as he could easily draw them away from locations, making it easier for them to raid.
Clementine was finding the positives as she couldn’t entertain any negatives, she knew that things were going to be tough going forward.
But Clementine was beginning to realize that Jason wasn’t just a threat to himself but a threat to those around him.
She decided to stay here a little longer to make sure that he could keep whatever this was under control.

Franklin and Brayden left to go look for Debra, there were no leads and they didn’t see anything that indicated she even went in this direction.
They only had Kenny’s word to go by and that was a direction, they could be anywhere.
Brayden hoped that they would find the corpse somewhere so they could move on.
He didn’t think she was alive, the zombie that did this must have been a tough son of a bitch.
"This looks like it is going to take some time, don’t forget we didn’t come here to rescue," Brayden reminded Franklin.
There was only so much they were willing to do to aid Franklin in his little mission.
"I understand, if things are looking rough or we don’t find anything before the sun sets, we will return," Franklin said.
Brayden had no intention of waiting that long, he couldn’t risk going back when it was dark knowing the dangers that waited for them.
"Yeah... No, I’m giving you an hour to find her or any sign of life or we’re returning without you," Brayden said bluntly.
"Surprisingly, you left the other two to die, it was almost like they weren’t one of yours," Brayden said but Franklin didn’t honour him with a response.
They soon heard a banging sound in one of the houses that they walked by.
Brayden looked at Franklin as he stood there.
"Well? Go check it," Brayden instructed him, this could be the person he was looking for but that was unlikely considering that the banging sound would do the opposite of hiding from a zombie.
Franklin, however, knew he had to investigate and went into the house through the shattered window with Brayden standing and waiting for him to return.
Franklin made it into the house and the banging continued, it was coming from the second floor.
Franklin climbed up the stairs with a gun in hand, ready for anything to happen.
He knocked lightly on it before whispering to see if anyone was inside.
"Hello, if you can hear me, respond," Franklin requested but all he got in response was fastened footsteps.
Something was charging right at the door and Franklin took a couple of steps back with his gun pointed in that direction.
The first hit on the door almost blew it open, whoever was doing this had to have tremendous strength and Franklin knew that it wasn’t a person behind that door.
He ran down the stairs and when he was at the door, he heard the door break apart.
"BRAYDEN! IT IS A ZOMBIE!" Franklin warned through the window but before Brayden could react, a hand grabbed Franklin and dragged him out of sight.
"FRANKLIN!"
