Chapter 205: Another Day, Another Raid
Chapter 205: Another Day, Another Raid
Lillian was sitting outside, she had a day off, and there wasn’t much work to do anymore as all the hard work had already been done.
They were waiting for the harvest now and this meant she had a lot more time to herself, she felt safer ever since that attack.
Jason came to see her because he was her guardian and big brother in that sense.
Lillian’s face lit up the moment she saw Jason even though it lasted for a second before it returned to a scowl.
Jason already knew she was happy to see him but she was too damn stubborn to admit something so obvious.
"You’re slacking off, aren’t you?" Jason attacked her the moment he saw and Lillian rolled her eyes in response.
"Does it look like I am slacking off?" Lillian responded in a condescending tone but Jason was used to this at this point.
"You know Carl?" Jason asked and the girl was confused as to what brought him into the conversation.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Lillian raised a brow, wondering what Jason was driving at.
"He likes you," Jason said and Lillian’s reaction almost floored him, she visibly cringed at the thought but she couldn’t look Jason in the eyes as she did.
"D-Don’t say weird stuff out of the blue dipshit!" Lillian barked but her reaction told Jason that she wasn’t oblivious to this fact.
"It is fine, I know you aren’t interested in him, just thought I’d tell. I also came to tell you that I will be going outside the walls," Jason said and Lillian tensed up the moment she heard this even though she tried her best to pretend like she didn’t care.
"Outside, do you want to die that badly?" Lillian asked, he didn’t need to go.
"If I do die, I want you to take care of your sister for me," Jason said, Lillian was expecting a retort to act as some sort of reassurance.
"Hey, that isn’t funny," Lillian checked him immediately but the look in his eyes, Jason met those words. Jason knew he had to say his goodbyes each time he was leaving because it could be his last and Clementine was no longer here to protect him.
There was no telling what could happen and Jason didn’t want them waiting for him forever when he might not return.
Lillian was looking visibly distressed, she could no longer pretend not to care.
Jason picked up on this but this was something that needed to happen, this was their reality and he needed her to understand.
"Before you burst into tears, don’t worry. I’m too stupid to die," Jason used himself as the butt of the joke but Lillian didn’t laugh.
She understood that this could happen at any time but for some reason, she never gave it much thought.
She always assumed he would return to them without fail so this joke took her by surprise.
Jason sighed, he knew he might have taken it too far but he didn’t regret his decision.
He squatted down, placing his hand on her shoulder and he could tell that Lillian was holding in her fear.
"It is okay to be scared, little one. The world has gone to literal shit right now but I promise you this, I will try my best to keep returning to you," Jason said and this was working.
"Of course, to Rachel, not to you little fucker," Jason joked and Lillian couldn’t help but smile.
"If the zombies want brains, you should be safe," Lillain regained her spunk.
"That’s more like it," Jason responded but Glenn came out of the blue.
"Hey, you two..." Glenn greeted them both, Lillian liked Glenn because he was the most friendly person she had met since coming here.
Glenn was a lot different from everyone, he had the aura of a father unlike Jason, who had one of a brother.
Lillian broke away from Jason’s hold and ran towards Glenn, hugging him.
"Damn, I thought we were having a moment here," Jason sighed as he got up to his feet.
"Hey sport, is Jason giving you some trouble?" Glenn asked.
"No, he is just being a dipsh-! I mean he is just being mean," Lillian corrected herself because Glenn had warned her against cursing.
She ignored his warnings at first but the more she grew to respect him, she naturally began to listen to him.
"You have managed to tame this little demon, I’m surprised..." Jason said and this invited a scornful look from said little demon.
"Hahaha! She isn’t a demon, you just get under her skin. Are you ready?" Glenn asked to which Jason nodded.
"You’re going too?" Lillian asked and Glenn nodded the moment he heard this.
"I have to go so I can bring Jason back to you," Glenn quickly added because he could tell that Lillian didn’t like what she had heard.
"Don’t forget to bring yourself back too!" Lillian warned.
"Yes ma’am!" Glenn said with a salute and Jason just shook his head.
He liked this for Lillian, she was acting more like a kid and with Glenn there to act as a parental figure, she had that male presence in her life that she could look up to.
Jason knew they were close but she didn’t see him as a father figure, more like a big brother and this was evident with how they interacted. Throwing curse words up and down like they were exchanging blows.
They bid her farewell and Jason didn’t even know where they were going and hoped that Glenn would fill him in along the way.
Jason knew regardless of how dangerous the mission was, he had the best chance at survival with Chronos by his side. This was the one thing that he couldn’t risk, something told him that Dimitris would be the single most important thing to stop whatever it was that Allison was planning. For if he fell, the community would panic and begin to doubt who could lead them.
They looked up to him as their "Superman" and if Superman should fall, chaos would consume it all.
