System Of The Undead

Chapter 208: I Will Be The One

Chapter 208: I Will Be The One

Jason knew that they were in danger but how did the zombies find their location if Chronos was suppressing the powers of the fragments?

Dimitris sensed the urgency in his voice and knew that whatever Jason was talking about, Jason truly believed that they were in danger.

Dimitris had no reason to doubt him and jumped right back into the car and started it.

Dimitris reversed before doing a 180 turn and speeding away.

Jason heaved a sigh of relief as the zombies slowly faded out of his radar.

Glenn was surprised that he acted the way he did because this was scary.

"What the fuck was that?" The man that was with them questioned, there was nothing normal about what just happened.

Dimitris knew that they couldn’t go back empty-handed and realized that he just might have to force his way through the horde ahead, things go either go well or terrible wrong but this was a gamble he had take.

He stepped on the gas, the car reaching its max and just like a lawnmower, the zombies were cleared out of their part.

Dimitris knew he needed to maintain the momentum of the car or they would get stuck.

They managed to break through but the windscreen was covered in zombie guts soon enough.

Dimitris was blind so he had to stick his head out of the window to see what was happening as the wind wiper wasn’t working.

The collision with the zombies must have fucked it up and he knew he couldn’t drive blind or that might as well be a death sentence.

Dimitris was glad he did because he was heading right off the road, he swerved sharply to keep on the road.

But this left him vulnerable to zombie attacks, he was a sitting duck that was left open to the zombies.

And as expected, the zombies used this opportunity to try and attack him, clawing away at him but their nails couldn’t get past the layer of clothes he had on.

Dimitris was well prepared for such an event because Jason informed him about this new breed of zombies that presumably possessed intelligence.

He couldn’t gamble it but Dimitris noticed a zombie right ahead of the car and he thought about running it over but noticed that the zombie had a stone in hand.

This was new, he had never seen a zombie pick up anything but going by Jason’s intel, it was possible.

He increased his speed but the zombie tossed the stone right at him, Dimitris had to quickly stick his head back inside the car and this caused him to swerve once again.

This was the single action that drove him off the road and eventually, the truck came to a stop.

Dimitris was smart to let go of the accelerator or he would have totalled his car.

He thought about reversing but zombies were already on him, this made him question what his next choice of action could be.

Jason was surprised by what happened because there were no evolved zombies there.

"What the fuck is going on?" The man in the car with them exclaimed but Jason wasn’t bothered.

He had to have a conversation with Chronos because something told him that Chronos knew exactly what was happening.

"Chronos, what is going on?" Jason questioned and Chronos knew it had some explaining to do.

[[These zombies were turned by the evolved.]]

Chronos said bluntly, that this meant that they retained some of their characteristics due to the fragment being directly part of their transformation.

Jason realized that with each day they let the zombies roam, the stronger they became and there was no way they would win in an all-out war against the undead.

Dimitris knew if they stayed in the car, it would be impossible for them to get out without getting bit.

"Out now!" Dimitris commanded and everyone got out, Carl was scared shitless but his body didn’t freeze despite that fear.

He was functioning just fine, following Jason’s lead, he had barely seen anything and instantly knew why his mother was against him joining the raiders.

If this was what Dimitris saw every time he stepped out, why the fuck does he keep doing so?

Carl was the only one scared due to his lack of experience.

"Stay behind me," Jason commanded, his voice was reassuring and Carl had to believe everything would be found as long as he stayed behind him.

"Dimitris, what now?" Jason asked but Dimitris was surveying the area, they were surrounded.

"Were all these zombies bitten by an evolved?" Jason thought to himself but that couldn’t be the case.

He still didn’t know the effects of being bitten by an evolved species except the forced evolution of said zombies.

Unlike the zombies with the fragments, these zombies couldn’t evolve past this.

This was the limit of their potential and it would also give them an idea of the zombies that turned them.

Jason didn’t know why the zombies on his radar stopped giving chase but he was glad that they did; he couldn’t help but wonder if this was all part of their plan.

The fact that they were together and not scattered meant that they weren’t targeting each other, a contradiction to what he already knew.

"You people should head the other way, I got this," Dimitris said, his facial expression didn’t show any hint of fear.

Jason thought about opposing him but Glenn grabbed him by the arm and left with Carl following suit.

Some of the zombies present noticed this and turned their attention to them but Dimitris wasn’t going to allow this.

He let loose a bullet, reestablishing himself as the prime target before dashing the other way.

Dimitris’ strategy was simply, to draw them away from the SUV so they could continue their journey.

This was why he acted as the bait, it was a lot easier to navigate this situation alone than with the others, he planned to circle and regroup with his people
