Chapter 212: Danger At Every Turn!
Chapter 212: Danger At Every Turn!
Jason heard the shriek and didn’t know what to think about it but there was no doubt that was the sound of a zombie.
He knew he didn’t have much time to react and it was coming in Dimitris’ direction.
He didn’t perceive anything out of the ordinary as his radar didn’t pick up the evolved zombies moving and unfortunately for Jason.
The radar didn’t pick up the zombies that the evolved had turned as it registered them as normal zombies unless he used the scanning feature of his map but the cooldown would make it impossible to use for the rest of the day.
Jason had to choose because there was no telling if Carl and Co suffered the same fate.
[[They have found us]]
Chronos informed Jason, Jason was confused about what he meant by this considering his map isn’t reading anything but what the fuck did Chronos mean by that?
’Chronos, would you like to fucking explain yourself?" Jason questioned his system and this granted him a free pass on his map usage seeing as it was Chronos that activated this skill.
It scanned the area but there were no zombies around making what he said even more eerie.
[[That is strange, it seems I cannot locate them]]
Chronos sounded concerned for a system incapable of feeling emotions, this was something that Jason had never felt from him.
"Are you malfunctioning, Chronos?" Jason asked outright but Chronos didn’t give him a response but instead used the scanning feature once again but nothing was showing up.
[[Jason, you need to leave. I don’t know how but they’re preventing me from finding them]]
Chronos informed Jason but Jason didn’t believe his system, there was no way that they would go undetected and assumed this was another ploy by Chronos to manipulate him.
Jason was prepared for the worst-case scenario but there was something off.
He might not see it but something in his bones told him that what Chronos just said might not be too far off the mark.
Jason rushed in the direction where the shriek came from, something told him that Dimitris was in more danger but there was no way of telling this.
Jason was surprised by the lack of zombies present, it was like they just vanished into thin air which was strange, he expected to see at least a few on his way but there were none.
"Damn it! Stay alive Dimitris!" Jason said under his breath, he knew that time wasn’t his friend.
Time was against him and he needed to do something fast.
He noticed footprints all headed in one direction but they were not walking from the depression on the ground.
[[Runner class detected!]]
Chronos informed Jason but Jason raised one brow in confusion because what the fuck were they doing here and where have they been hiding?
If it was as Chronos said then they should have encountered them a lot sooner and this could only mean that they weren’t interested in them.
But that wasn’t possible, zombies always craved humans but Jason also knew he could be overthinking this.
That was a possibility but he began to see corpses around, there was clearly a sign of battle but where was Dimitris?
The only thing of note he saw was the gun that he had on him and a blood trail leading away from the area.
"Fucking hell! What the fuck happened?" Jason muttered and knew he had to follow the trail of blood leading in that direction.
No wonder he didn’t hear a single gunshot, it is because Dimitris couldn’t.
They had managed to disarm and injure him but Jason wasn’t sure what the extent of injury he had on him.
"Chronos! Stop absorbing!" Jason commanded his system.
[[Excuse me?]]
Chronos asked, clearly confused by this drastic action but it had no reason not to listen to his master.
"I said stop fucking absorbing the fragment leaking out of my body right fucking now!" Jason reiterated and Chronos understood what he was attempting.
There was no way that Dimitris could face that many zombies on his own so he had used this to try and draw some of them towards him.
This was the only option he had if he was going to save Dimitris.
Jason ran as fast as his feet could carry him but with him now being detectable, he was a sitting duck to not only the normal zombies but the fully evolved as well.
-
"Fuck! What the fuck was that!?" Dimitris questioned, he was injured but he was applying pressure on his wound so his blood wasn’t all over the place.
He also made sure to rub his blood on trees to not only throw the zombies off but to buy him some time to recuperate.
He managed to do that by tying his cloth around the wound on his torso, it looked like it would split open at any moment but the cloth held it in place.
"That wasn’t a normal zombie..." Dimitris thought, looking over his shoulder for any threat.
Judging from Dimitris’ reaction, it wasn’t the runners that inflicted this wound on him.
Dimitris knew it was only a matter of time before he was found and he was in no condition to defend himself either.
He knew that if a zombie saw him in this state, all that was guaranteed was death.
There was no way for him to escape this fate, he wasn’t a god and this meant that he had one choice.
Remain hidden for as long as possible and pray to whatever God he believes in that the zombies don’t find him.
But that was too good to be true, Dimitris would soon learn that there was no God in this land.
Just death and chaos, and it would afflict everyone it could find, there was no escaping it.
There it was, the familiar growling of the zombie around him, Dimitris gulped because he knew that things were reaching an end.
He tried to control his breathing but that didn’t do any good because the cloth was soaked through.
The zombie inched closer to him and Dimitris had to hold the dagger tightly in his hand but the zombie suddenly stopped in its tracks upon the gunshot not so far away.
Dimitris knew where it was coming from and which gun it was that fired the bullet, it was his.
"Jason...?" Dimitris thought to himself because this would be Jason putting himself in danger or did he encounter some zombies there and try to fight them off?
The latter was the thought in his head and before he knew it, the zombie ran in that direction.
Jason’s plan had worked or did it?
Something slimy dropped on Dimitris’ shoulder and at that moment, Dimitris realized that the very thing that he had been running from had found him.
-
Glenn, Carl, and Jeff were in a bind, they knew the shed wouldn’t hold with the amount of zombies out there and nothing was stopping the zombies from ripping them apart when it did.
Jeff knew that if they all stayed inside, they would die but there was a chance at survival, they just needed to act fast.
Jeff noticed that the zombies were focused on getting inside but with that knowledge, it should be possible to exit the shed as long as there was something inside for the zombies to want.
Jeff began to tap one side of the shed to disperse the zombies sparsely to that location even though the swarm was still active.
But it created a very thin space for him to escape through, this thinking was ingenious as many wouldn’t have thought about it on the spot.
Jeff slowly opened the window, he did this without the others noticing as they were in different locations within the cabin.
Jeff launched himself outside and it was because of this act that the zombies were not only able to get in but ultimately proved to be a decision that Jeff would regret.
A zombie got on all fours and began to charge at him like a dog, Jeff fired a barrage of bullets but this made him unaware of the zombie behind him.
It sank its teeth into his neck and there was nothing that Jeff could do as this was an attack he couldn’t defend against.
Jeff had not only compromised those within the cabin but he had stupidly thrown himself to his demise but something strange happened.
It wasn’t some special zombie that bit him, it was just any zombie begging the question, was Jason’s assumption of the zombie’s motive even accurate?
The zombies got into the Cabin and Glenn had no choice but to open fire on the zombie.
He fired multiple bullets and nailed some zombies, killing them and this was when Carl finally froze.
Carl was scared shitless because he had never seen this amount of zombies but the good thing about this was that the zombies began to circle to find their way in, creating a way out.
Glenn used this opportunity to get out and they dashed right out the door but not before bolting it close from the outside.
The zombies weren’t intelligent creatures and kept clawing at the door, trying to get out.
Glenn knew that they couldn’t rest yet, grabbing his hand to run away but unfortunately for them, a runner zombie was lurking that gave chase.
