Chapter 263: The Final Hurdle?

Jason didn’t chase after Rachel, he was ready for whatever punishment that came with his actions but he was aware he had one more thing to do after getting rid of the body.

He needed to confront Mariam, Jason knew they were nearing the end game and he needed to get rid of all liabilities.

Jason went to the gate and just as he thought, it was opened with little to no questions.

They assumed he wanted to do a patrol outside the wall and offered to help but Jason reassured them that he would be fine.

This wasn’t just a walk, he wanted to get some fresh air as well and they understood how tiring staying inside could feel but he was a raider.

If anything, he should be relieved to be within the walls and this was why they admired Jason.

He was a man who protected the community at the cost of his health or sleep.

Jason walked and just kept walking, he didn’t know where he was going but he understood that it had to be far away.

He walked into an area littered with corpses, dead zombies to be exact and knew this was his spot as the chances of anyone coming here to dig the ground were low.

Jason dug a hole and emptied the contents of the bag within it but also pushed one of the corpses down the hole to reduce the probability even further.

Jason heaved a sigh of relief, he had gotten rid of one of the Specters but that was only because he caught her off guard but he doubted that she would have posed much of a challenge regardless.

"You should have killed me when you had the chance," Jason muttered.

He hoped that Rachel hadn’t reported him yet, he still had one more thing to take care of and that was Mariam.

He didn’t care if Allison was lying, what she said did make some sense and there was no reason to lie in that situation.

The only thing possible was that she might have mixed in a lie or two but ultimately, this should be true.

Jason could tell when someone was lying by listening to their heartbeat, or would it be more accurate to say Chronos could?

And since they shared the same consciousness then there was no way that Chronos’ ability wasn’t shared with him.

Jason headed back, drenched in sweat, he needed to take a shower as soon as possible.

He looked like a madman, he returned with the bag because he knew it would raise fewer questions.

Jason returned to the wall and the guards there were acting as they usually would telling him that Rachel hadn’t told them yet.

This was a relief but he knew he couldn’t let his guard down as this could very well be an act.

Jason walked right to Mariam’s place, he didn’t know how long he had but Mariam had to be the most dangerous person in this community right now.

The guards stationed at her house allowed him entry, Mariam trusted Jason enough to give this treatment but it was well past 3 A.M.

Mariam wouldn’t have entertained anyone but she assumed it was an emergency.

Jason’s eyes caught a glimpse of her nightgown, the two melons hanging on her chest threatened to rip through it, she had on a robe but Jason’s eyes managed to see this before she could cover up fully.

"Jason?" Mariam was surprised, Jason didn’t know why she was dressing the way she was considering her husband was dead.

Unlike people who met her in her office, Jason met her directly at her home, this was his first time coming here but it was a lot bigger than the other residence.

"You look like filth, are you okay?" Mariam asked, Jason didn’t even know where to begin.

This has been a very stressful few hours and he didn’t even know if his relationship with Rachel was even still in play.

"Come in, come in," Mariam said, grabbing him by the arm and taking him in.

She knew about their last raid and the toll it took on everyone but she was also aware that Jason played a major role in this.

She realized that he was filthy and there was no way she could allow him to stay like this in her home, it was not only uneasy but the smell made her uneasy.

The fact that he came here without cleaning up told her that something was going on with him.

"I need to tell you something," Jason said and Mariam stopped in her tracks.

Mariam brought out a plastic chair for him to sit on, he didn’t think much about this and sat on it.

Jason knew that he might have to kill this woman tonight as well depending on how the conversation went but something was building up inside of him.

He couldn’t explain it, he watched Mariam bend and her robe lifted, exposing her thighs.

Jason didn’t know if this was intentional or not but he knew he couldn’t derail from his objective.

"Can I use your bathroom?" Jason asked, he wished to excuse himself.

"Certainly," Mariam approved, Jason found it strange that she welcomed him into her home this late but he wasn’t one to question.

And if anything were to happen to her, it would be easy to point fingers at him as he was the only one to see her that night.

He went to the bathroom and shut the door behind him, he couldn’t believe he was about to do this. He looked at himself in the mirror and realized he looked like shit.

"YOU SHOULD TAKE A SHOWER WHILE YOU’RE IN THERE!" Mariam screamed.

Jason chuckled at this suggestion, if only she knew where he was coming from, a shower would be the last of her concerns.

Jason searched her cabinets to see if he could find anything that could potentially collaborate with whatever it was that Allison told him.

He couldn’t find anything but that would make sense considering that her son lived with her.

She would have gotten rid of everything that was incriminating.

Jason sighed in frustration, he was tired of everything and everyone, and he wanted to sleep for a year.

He stripped and stepped into the shower and what he saw earlier replayed in his mind, he saw how perfect Mariam’s breasts were. Her big breasts, each almost as big as one of her thighs, hung down from her shoulders like huge over-ripe melons with nipples the size of small saucers.
