Chapter 283: Wipe Them Out!
Chapter 283: Wipe Them Out!
There was no news about Jason, it was like he vanished into thin air, spoofed out of existence with nothing to show for him.
Rachel had tried to find him but there was no lead, and every day that passed, she lost a little faith.
Her younger sister grew to dislike him, and Rachel could tell Lillian was hurting.
She didn’t let anyone get close to her again and was closed off from any interaction or attempt to befriend her.
Rachel was working closely with Dimitris, Dimitris wanted to find Jason more than anyone because he knew that Jason might be the key to stopping this mess.
Dimitris couldn’t find any clue and this worried him, if Jason was out there and wished to be seen, he would have dropped some signal to alert them that he was alive but it has been a year and not a single thing.
Dimitris was due to go on another run, the community stood tall as they no longer needed to worry about the zombies, which was a positive.
However, there were strange people spotted observing and watching them from afar which was weird considering that they never made contact.
They were scouting the community and the fact that they returned to wherever they came from implied that they had a base elsewhere.
Dimitris thought about tracking them but there was a risk that this was what they wanted.
This was the only thing preventing him from his run, Mariam had been informed about this and she was still deliberating on what to do regarding this situation.
They had enough ammunition to defend themselves against whatever threat that was to come.
She doubted anyone else still had as much as they did considering they were the only raiders in this area for an extended period.
However, she had come to a decision and Dimitris was summoned.
Allison’s disappearance was strange but Bella had informed them that Allison had betrayed the community but she wasn’t aware that Mariam had a hand to do in any of this.
This was smart on Mariam’s part as she made sure that it couldn’t be traced back to her.
Allison was the only person that could confirm this connection and she was dead.
"Dimitris, I’m glad you’re in good health," Mariam began the conversation, the stress of leadership was beginning to show on her face.
"I could say the same about you," Dimitris noticed that the strain of leadership was beginning to tell on her but it wasn’t in his place to point it out, unlike Mariam, he was used to demanding situations.
"Have you concluded?" Dimitris asked her but he noticed that she had a peculiar look on her face.
Whatever was about to come out from her lips wasn’t good but he was prepared for that.
"I have and I do not wish to make contact with whoever it is that is lurking..." Mariam said but she wasn’t done.
"I want you to eliminate them all," Mariam commanded and Dimitris felt his heart dropped.
He was a soldier who killed for a cause but there was no justification to this.
They had yet to establish if they were a threat or not but Dimitris couldn’t question his superior.
"Are you sure about this?" Dimitris asked but Mariam’s demeanour changed, what looked like uncertainty turned to confidence.
"I am, kill them all. We cannot risk it. I have finally achieved the peace I desired... I have grown our food, we haven’t seen a zombie in over a year and I cannot risk it whatsoever even if these people do not have bad intentions..." Mariam said outright, revealing a cold side to her that Dimitris already knew existed.
He could see the logic behind her choice regardless of how extreme It sounded.
This told him that Mariam was willing to do whatever it took to protect the community and this included taking the lives of anyone that could potentially pose a threat.
But before the conversation could proceed further, the door swung open.
"You won’t be going alone, Dimitris," Mariam said, Dimitris looked over his shoulder and saw a man that has racked up quite a terrible reputation for himself; Corey.
Corey looked at Dimitris before smirking, this was part of the reason Dimitris knew he had to hold onto his position because there was no telling just who would replace him.
"Corey... You wish for Corey to come along with me?" Dimitris questioned with a raised brow.
"No, I wish for you to go with Corey. He has the skills necessary to ensure the success of this mission but you have the respect of the masses so you being there would free them of any doubt," Mariam pointed.
Dimitris couldn’t believe what he was hearing, she had spoken to Corey before him.
That was absurd but he had no problem with this role he was given even if he was to act as a mascot.
There was no telling what would happen otherwise.
Dimitris hid his displeasure and simply nodded, affirming to her instructions before leaving the office but he knew that this was just the beginning of what could potentially result in the end of the community.

The base was no different and things were tender with Sanders slowly losing control of the situation.
There was no telling if the soldiers wouldn’t attempt mutiny if he tried to stop this barbaric experiment m
But Anderson noticed something was going on, realizing that things weren’t as they seemed.
The number of people was slowly reducing and the rations had shrunk.
That was to be expected after a year but the special treatment he got from the information he had wasn’t so special anymore.
He was treated like everyone else and this instilled in him a sense of urgency.
He had to figure out a way out of this mess and that would start by him escaping this place.
He looked around the room to find who could aid him in his escape plan and his eyes settled on the one person that could make this happen.
The very lady that came in with Clementine even though she was sick but this only meant that she was next in line to be taken away.
