Chapter 291: A Saviour?
Chapter 291: A Saviour?
Bella woke up but she had sprained her ankles, she was lucky that this was the only injury she sustained, there was no telling what else awaited her.
Bella was terrified, the zombies in there should never be allowed out here or humanity would stand no chance.
She had lost her team and this would no doubt weaken HELL but she was grateful for their sacrifice or she wouldn’t be alive right now.
The fragment she saw, she couldn’t explain it but it felt familiar, there was something comforting about it and she hoped that the cave collapsing on itself was enough to destroy it alongside the explosion.
She had to get back even though she was some distance away from the vehicle and if she should be attacked as she was right now, there was little she could do to defend herself.
She took a moment of silence to show respect to her fallen comrades, they sacrificed their lives to save hers, and this was the least she could do.
Bella had turned her life around just like Jason believed, she wasn’t taking anything for granted, realizing that she didn’t need to become a monster to survive in this world.
No, the only way they could survive was to maintain their humanity because if they gave up on it, that meant they gave up on the world ever recovering from this disease that plagued them.
After everything is said and done, they could use the argument that this was the only way to survive.
That wouldn’t be wrong but what happens when they are alone with their thoughts?
The only way they could retain it is if they weren’t too far gone and Jason saved her from falling into that abyss.
The men who had sacrificed themselves to save her also showed her that she had saved them for these men were stone-cold killers in the past, they didn’t give their lives because they saw her as their client. No, they gave their life because this was the loyalty she instilled in these people others would have thought lost.
She struggled to move, dragging her feet along the ground and realizing that she had dislocated a shoulder as well.
She was a mess but this was a better fate than death so she couldn’t complain, it was a miracle that this was the only damage she sustained, something she wasn’t about to take for granted.
Bella kept moving at a gradual but slow pace, she had no weapons on her but she wouldn’t need any as long as she got to the car.
She had stashed a few there in case of emergencies so that was her priority right now.
However, something that she didn’t wish to happen, happened and that was the growling of the undead.
She didn’t know if it was coming from a human or an animal, there was something primal about it. Bella knew it was in her best interest to get the fuck out of there as soon as possible but her curiosity was one thing she needed satisfied; she needed to see what was watching her.
Bella managed to look over her shoulder and she was terrified by what she saw, she saw a couple of lions with their intestines hanging out of their stomach.
Even if she was nimble and fit, there was no way in hell she would be able to outrun them.
The fact that she had no weapon in hand worsened the situation but she had some guts on her so that should keep them in check for now.
She stood still, not moving an inch until she noticed the blood dripping down her forehead, these creatures naturally had a good sense of smell so there was no way that fresh blood would go unnoticed.
She had to keep the bleeding to a minimum because the stench of rotten flesh so far overwhelmed this crimson-red fluid.
The lions were four in number and they circled her like they were unsure of what to do but Bella knew she couldn’t agitate them or allow them to make a move.
She examined the situation, picking out her best course of action because it looked like they would attack at any moment.
She had to get out of there and fast but Bella felt a strange liquid run down her legs, she was bleeding in more places.
No, it was that time of the month and there was no way that these zombies wouldn’t pick up on the scent and she was right.
This was the worst possible time for her menstrual cycle to begin, it was not only early but she wasn’t prepared for this.
One of the lions charged right at her and she managed to jump out of the way but this only riled up the remaining zombies.
Bella knew that this was it for her, there was no way she could escape it but she didn’t want to become one of them.
She couldn’t kill herself even if she wanted to because there was nothing in sight to damage her brain with.
She took a deep breath, hoping that the lion went for her head and somehow damaged her brain so she wouldn’t come back as one of them.
She smiled as she closed her eyes but the attack never came, she opened her eyes to see that all the lions had been killed.
They had their head split into two but the fact that she didn’t hear a sound or felt any presence puzzled her.
There was no way someone could kill these things and disappear in mere seconds because if anything, the lions would have made some noise.
"What the fuck just happened?" Bella muttered under her breath but she wasn’t about to find out.
Bella had popped her shoulder back in, biting her lower lips to keep the sounds from escaping.
Whatever saved her, it wasn’t human but not only that, it must have been watching her for quite some time.
Bella assumed that it was a sniper who had managed to kill them, that was the only logical conclusion to something like this but was this what truly happened?
