Chapter 311: Night Has Come And...!
Chapter 311: Night Has Come And...!
The night had come, the worst possible time to be outside the walls because they were vulnerable to all forms of attacks.
The forest fire burned bright and acted as a beacon to every zombie within a mile radius, they may not be able to see but their other senses allowed them to perceive it.
However, Dimitris and Glenn managed to get out of the danger area alongside Brayden and his people but the loss incurred was more than they would have thought.
The fact that they acquired so many losses in such a short time showed how strong the horde was, a horde was troublesome enough but an evolved one was near impossible to win against.
However, they weren’t all wiped out thanks to the earlier explosion that seemed to distract the zombies, and the horsemen as was unknown why that was but no one was going to question it as long as it enabled them to live another day.
There were concerns but they had to return to the community to ensure that they reported this.
It had to be known that the evolved zombies were intelligent enough to use complex tactics that they weren’t able to a year ago.
The fact that it wasn’t Chronos controlling them like a year ago made this all the more frightening as the concept of taking the head and the limbs would cease to function no longer applied.
There was no telling if what was happening here was happening all over the world but there was a high chance that it was.
There was still news about Jason but there was conflicting information as Chronos implied that it knew Jason had a hand to play in Clementine not losing her very essence even though her will was eventually suppressed, she wasn’t lost.
Clementine was gone and Chronos chose her as a host due to her affiliation with Jason and one of the few people compatible with the fragment he wished to cultivate.
The chunk fragments all over the world that were once purple, had not only changed to pink but they were growing at a much faster pace.
Whatever it was that Chronos awakened, it was an important part of the plan to take the world.
The parasite in Clementine encased them in a pink crystal with roots sprouting from the bottom that dug into the earth as it had connected with a few other fragments that had done the same within multiple states and cities in the country prompting them to change colour.
They were synchronizing and if it was allowed to connect with the rest of the country, not only would Clementine be lost but the country known as America would cease to exist.
And it would only be a matter of time before the entire world suffered this fate.
But it still needed Jason, no, it needed the Nexus.

Corey and everyone with him managed to find shelter, they ventured into this territory that explicitly instructed them to stay away but what could be worse than the zombies that they just experienced? Rachel wished the world didn’t go through this change but there was nothing that could be done now than to accept her fate.
Rachel kept her dagger close to her as she could feel the leering of the men around her.
Rachel was attractive even more so by this new world standard and no one dared to touch her because they knew of her relationship with Dimitris, even if it wasn’t as deep as her relationship with Glenn.
Dimitris felt responsible for her ever since Jason disappeared, Rachel became untouchable as well as Lillian but she was alone with them.
They could do anything to her but they acted right because of Corey, Corey had these animals tamed giving Rachel some sense of relief as this could have gone wrong in so many ways.
They set up camp and everyone used this opportunity to rest, a few of the men around were patrolling and making sure that they were safe.
There were moments where Rachel wondered if life would have been any better if they didn’t come here at all, what if they remained in the world, would they have found someone safer to settle in? Would Jason still be here?
They spotted recent human activity, there were footsteps around here so maybe this sign wasn’t just there for design.
This put them all on high alert, including Rachel but even so, some of them still managed to catch some sleep.
This was essential, they needed that rest after such an exhausting day as it would do no one good if they were too tired to fight back against threats that could be lurking anywhere.
There was no way for them to stay awake 24/7 so they had to set up a system that allowed them to rotate.
The moon shone exceptionally bright today and that allowed them to see their surroundings a lot easier.
The forest fire couldn’t reach where they were either so they were safe.
In a way, Corey’s impulsive action was the reason that they stood a chance, otherwise the horsemen would have taken their time to execute them.
Rachel needed to take a piss, she didn’t know where to take a piss but she knew she had to go deeper into this territory to stand a chance at doing so without being seen.
Rachel found a safe spot and proceeded to do her business, the relief that came from releasing all that stored fluid relaxed her entire body even though she didn’t let down her guard for a second as she didn’t know who or what could be around her.
Rachel, however, soon heard some noise in the distance and immediately froze.
She didn’t want to draw any attention to herself, realizing that things weren’t as simple as they looked in this world.
It could be a person or a zombie, she didn’t know which was more dangerous but she wasn’t going to take any chances.
Rachel realized it was coming in her direction and held her dagger tightly, ready to pounce on the threat.
She calmed her breathing and her focus was heightened but nothing could prepare her for what she saw next.
It was a rabbit that immediately ran in the opposite direction the moment it saw, it was neither infected nor was it a threat.
But when was the last time she saw any livestock that wasn’t dead or wandering like the undead?
Was this place truly safe or was someone rearing them? These were possibilities she had no choice but to entertain.
However, as she got up, Rachel felt a hand firmly around her mouth and the strength was overwhelming.
"I finally got you alone~" The voice whispered into her ear, she tried to fight him off but he was stronger than her.
The fact that her pants were halfway up and not all the way made it a lot easier for this man to do what he planned to do.
Rachel was pinned against one of the abandoned cars and the man already had his cock in his hand, ready to slip it in her.
"You have no idea how long I have been waiting for this..." The man whispered, this wasn’t Corey’s voice so it had to be one of his men.
The fact that he had tracked her and waited for that exact moment told Rachel that this man had been watching her long before she came here.
Rachel tried her best to fight him off but biology was against her, he was a well-built man and holding her in place was one of the easiest things for him.
"Ready or not... Here I com-!" The man couldn’t complete his sentence and Rachel never felt the sensation that came with being penetrated but instead, something moist was drizzling on her.
She thought it was raining but that couldn’t be right, the hold on her hand loosened and she immediately broke free only to see that the man had the top of his head sliced clean off.
"What the...!" Rachel thought to herself, that there was no explaining what happened because there was nothing or no one in sight.
The body dropped to the ground, lifeless and Rachel knew she had to get the hell out of there.
She didn’t know if some kind of trap was triggered and she wasn’t about to stay long enough to find out. Rachel dashed out of there with the corpse of the man trying to assault her sprawled across the ground awkwardly.
However, the moment she left the vicinity, a crow landed on the very car she was about to be assaulted on.
But it was no doubt not alive, this crow was dead with an eye missing and looked like it was watching Rachel.
That was abnormal behavior for a zombie as there were no cases for an evolved animal.
But in the distance, a figure cloaked in darkness could be seen, its features couldn’t be made out but one word came out of its mouth.
"R-R-Rachel..."
