Chapter 326: An Obstacle In Sam’s Path! The Conclusion Draws Near!
Sam sped like a NASCAR driver, drifting along the road with such expertise that one would think that he raced professionally in his past life but this was simply one of the many skills he had under his belt.
Sam was surprised that these things were waiting for him, someone wished for him to travel by this method but Sam didn’t trust anyone.
However, this was abnormal and Sam was drawn to such things as this could allow him to know more about these creatures.
This was one of the reasons he was willing to take that risk. What made this specific zombie come to him and give him directions to Clementine?
It showed abilities it didn’t even possess when alive, Sam believed that the evolved might have intelligence but they displayed traits that made them more human on the contrary this crow displayed traits that made it less of a crow and closer to humanity out of the usual equation.
"Clementine, hang in there, I am coming," Sam muttered to himself, she looked for him all these years and found him only to be abandoned by him yet again.
Now, there was a chance that she was in mortal danger because of him.
It was his fault and while Sam was accustomed to putting himself first, he had to make an exception for her or would regret it.
Sam was getting closer to his destination until the crow came to a halt, Sam realized that there was no way that Sanders would be able to find him but knowing this was a possibility, Sam made sure to leave clues that would lead them to him.
He was experienced in this regard but knew that this could be a trap as he hit the brakes.
Sam noticed the crows didn’t do anything else, they just stayed still and looked around.
"Is this where you wanted me?" Sam questioned but the crows returned to their aloof state.
They no longer responded to him and this ticked him off as he had wasted well over 3 hours to come here.
The crows suddenly dispersed without any care in the world, leaving Sam standing alone on a barren field but Sam noticed his head throb aggressively the moment this was done.
The pain was so bad that it made his knees buckle and his mind black out for just a second but Sam wasn’t going to succumb to whatever this was.
He struggled back up despite the pain still present as he took a deep breath to calm his mind.
Sam was strong, he was one of the few people who could put up any resistance to what was happening with the others.
The parasite in Clementine had somehow synced with not only everyone that has been in contact with the fragment but the infected as well.
It changed the composition of the fragment’s effect to make it stronger to the point that even the living weren’t safe.
It was believed that one needed to be dead for Chronos to take control of them but if they could take control of the living as well then humanity was truly doomed.
This was looking like a possibility but Sam wasn’t aware of this development.
The closer he got to Clementine, the more pain he felt due to the proximity. A normal person’s mind would have broken long before then but Sam was simply built differently.
For some reason, he could feel Clementine, he couldn’t explain it but it was like she was calling for him and Sam was listening.
This could be another deception just like he thought he was talking to Jason but what if he was?
What if he was led there because he was the only one that could kill those humans?
It had to be something along those lines but Sam couldn’t give anyone the benefit of the doubt.
He explored the area but there was nothing in sight, the place was empty but this didn’t derail Sam.
Sam noticed that there were signs of struggle with the faint dent on the earth’s surface.
"What do we have here...?" Sam muttered under his breath with a smile, he still found a way to have his fun.
Sam followed the trail and soon stumbled upon something that he knew would lead him right to Clementine, it was an underground tunnel and coincidentally, there were fewer footprints around the tunnel meaning that not there was an attempt to cover up their tracks but his keen eyes could see everything.
Sam smiled, this took him back to when he came across the bunker where he encountered Anderson but he hadn’t thought about Anderson all these years.
He didn’t care about the man, to be honest, and Sam went into the underground, he didn’t try to conceal his presence or anything.
He was well equipped too because the boot of the car had weapons waiting for him even though the firepower wasn’t too impressive.
The tunnel was pitch black and unfortunately, he didn’t have any flashlight on him either so he was a sitting duck to the dead but this thought didn’t faze him.
If anything, it made him more motivated and there it was, he heard growling in the distance telling him he was in the right place.
There was no other way for a zombie to enter this place due to the passage being blocked, it had to be removed and put back in place.
"Clementine, is that you?" Sam said before chuckling to himself, he found that question funny but there was no way that could be Clementine.
The growl got louder and louder, Sam realized that he might not even need to combat this zombie and could let it pass but it could perceive him.
That was the only problem and that was when Sam remembered that he could conceal his scent by applying zombie guts on himself.
"I keep forgetting that is a thing..." Sam muttered until the zombie was within range, he attacked it solely based on the footsteps and growl, he could estimate not only the height but the mass, slamming his dagger right in the temple.
That was when Sam cut open the zombie and did what he should have long ago, wear the guts to conceal himself.
The headache was getting worse to the point that he could barely see straight but that was why he talked to himself.
This was his way of staying grounded and conscious of his environment.
It was like a magnet attraction except Sam was being repelled, which meant that something didn’t want him there which made him even more curious about what lay at the end of the tunnel.
Sam pushed through and luckily for him, he didn’t need to rely on sound anymore as light illuminated in the distance but it wasn’t natural light.
There was something in the walls, it looked like roots had slipped through it but it was pink in color.
It reminded Sam of what he saw in that building, the fragment that made the building alive.
There was a high chance that something similar had happened to this tunnel but what was going on?
Why was the colour pink? Sam didn’t know why it took this hue but he knew it couldn’t be anything good.
He has encountered some of these fragments but never has he seen this colour, even when it was first presented in the media after Schneider managed to utilize it, it wasn’t pink.
Sam took a deep breath, he was covered in zombie guts, the zombie came from this direction too so that meant it didn’t attack indiscriminately.
Sam just had to mimic the pace at which the zombie was walking and that was exactly what he did.
He wasn’t going to let this stop him, he had come too far.
Sam entered within its range and he couldn’t help but think that it would try to attack him immediately but the attack never came.
He kept walking and walking. Sam got past the first hurdle but in the distance, he saw something or someone sitting in front of the door at the end of this path.
Sam didn’t for a moment hesitate despite knowing that whatever this was, was a threat but he also had to be careful.
He was too deep in to escape should the tendrils running through the walls decided to go amok.
The closer Sam got, the clearer the figure became and Sam looked up to see that there was a man, this wasn’t the dead but the living, he could tell with a single look.
But what was the weapon right in front of him, it looked like a scythe but who uses a scythe?
Sam didn’t know if this was for show but judging by the glowing material that it consisted of, it was clear that this was a weapon crafted with a piece of the meteorite.
Sam instantly knew that this person wasn’t good news but this only made him more excited.
"Halt..." The being commanded but Sam didn’t listen, the way it spoke was so robotic, one would think it was an AI speaking as there were no emotions or rhythm in his tone.
"How about you make me, AI?" Sam mocked him before taking out the pistol strapped to his back and firing a bullet aimed right at its head without saying another word.
