Chapter 55: A Fatal Mistake?
Chapter 55: A Fatal Mistake?
The sun rose and a new day officially began, Sam finally returned with the loot but he was covered in blood, soaked even but the blood wasn’t his, a fact that Clementine established before the others caught wind of his arrival, this made it impossible for her to ask about what had happened.
However, Clementine could feel the weight lift off her medium-sized chest.
The guns Sam got were far too much, they were a lot and she knew that if they carried this around with them it would no doubt slow them down but she also knew how important all these will be in the future.
Guns should be the single most important thing right now, everyone will be after them as it was the best way to defend yourself against the undead and living.
"Welcome back Sam!" Jason greeted him with a hug, Sam was confused why he got such a reception considering they were all strangers.
"Man, I’m so glad you’re okay!" Jason exclaimed; Sam looked at Clementine with a puzzled expression on his face but she gestured for him to just go with it.
"Thanks..." Sam said awkwardly as Jason broke the embrace.
Jason helped with the guns because he was certain that Sam’s body would be sore carrying all this load from wherever he came from.
Jason wanted to ask about where all the blood came from but he knew now wasn’t the time.
Right now, Sam needed to rest because he must have had a long night, there was no doubt about it.
"I’m glad you’re okay Sam," Rachel said and Jason immediately jerked his head in her direction.
Rachel rarely showed concern for others so this took Jason off guard.
He also noticed that she had a change of clothes, she wore a black v-neck shirt that exposed the top of her cleavage with bum shorts.
This type of dressing was fitting for an apocalypse as it allowed for easier movements but her body made something so simple look so seductive.
"Thank you, Rachel. I don’t mean to be rude but can I get some alone time with Clementine?" Sam asked bluntly and Jason raised a brow before covering his mouth.
How could he not have seen it, that was why her panties were on the floor.
Sam was probably in a relationship with her and that was why they were so close.
Jason felt even more disgusted with himself that he did what he did with her panties.
Lillian was nowhere to be seen, as well as Bella, they had opted to remain in their rooms.
They couldn’t be bothered by what was going on but this was partly because they were oblivious to the situations that were happening outside their rooms.
Sam made sure to keep one of the bags in his room as he knew that he couldn’t be left defenceless if another attack should spring up on him.
The room was cleared and he was alone with Clementine soon enough.
"What happened Sam?" Clementine asked and Sam just fell on the bed exhausted, he looked at the kids and knew that Clementine also had a lot to tell him.
He wasn’t the only one that had to brief the other but he decided to go first.
Sam went into full detail, telling Clementine every single thing that happened from the time she left him, showing how much he trusted his partner.
Clementine couldn’t believe that Sam even survived such a situation, to begin with.
She didn’t know that he had to face humans, she assumed that his enemies were zombies.
She did notice that it was uncharacteristic of Sam to use a weapon without a silencer.
"You’re amazing Sam! I could never have done what you did! I cannot believe you did all this alone and survived! But this also means that they are a lot closer than we feared..." Clementine said.
"I’m afraid so but this should give us time to clear out. We need to leave this area, it has been compromised but we also need to keep an eye on Bella... I have a feeling she isn’t telling us everything," Sam said calmly.
He needed to rest and Clementine knew it but the way he looked at the boy, who was staring right at him, told her that this conversation couldn’t wait.
Clementine proceeded to tell Sam exactly what happened and even Sam found this sickening but he also pulled out his gun and pointed it at the frightened child. Clementine wasn’t going to let him have his way.
"What the fuck are you doing Clementine?" Sam questioned his partner who stood in the line of the gun barrel.
"I won’t let you kill a kid, Sam." Clementine protested as the child ran behind her.
"A child? That thing is one of them! Have you not lost enough already?" Sam questioned, he was making sense because this was the one thing that they needed to avoid.
He understood why Clementine wouldn’t kill a kid but what they knew about the virus was severely limited and they couldn’t risk traveling with this kid.
"Stop it, Sam," Clementine said, she wasn’t backing down but neither was Sam.
"The incident that happened at the police station and this, I have a feeling that they’re linked!" Clementine said, trying her best to change the conversation but Sam didn’t care if they were linked.
He was fine with Clementine playing pretend mom with the baby but not with an infected.
"Move Clementine," Sam warned.
"I need you to trust me, Sam. Just this once, I want you to trust me," Clementine pleaded. Sam looked her in the eyes, he knew that she wouldn’t back down.
"I hope you know what you’re doing Clementine..." Sam said, putting his gun away as Clementine heaved a sigh of relief.
Sam had no regard for age, if anyone was a threat, they had to be eliminated, it was that simple.
This was the one law he has lived by ever since joining the army but if these events were connected.
Then Sam was glad that he killed all those fuckers but did he?
The answer was no for he had led the most dangerous out of the lot right to them.
This person was Alex.
