Chapter 74: A Missing Piece!

Chapter 74: A Missing Piece!

Alex had his gone pointed right at Sam but Sam wasn’t backing down, he would be content dying if he could take Jason with him but he also knew he wasn’t faster than a bullet.

If the man before him pulled the trigger, the chances of him dying were exponentially high and this wasn’t something he was going to gamble on.

Sam smiled at his situation, it was quite unfortunate but he understood that where he stood may very well be where he died.

Sam looked over at Jason and saw the pathetic state he was in, he was wrong about Jason, he should never have come here to try and rescue him.

The change in his eyes wasn’t a positive one but Sam was also aware that the game that he had just witnessed was designed to mess with Jason because he could have easily become a zombie if the zombie did bite him and the wounds on his body no doubt meant that they tortured him.

Sam also could tell by looking into his eyes that this wasn’t the look of a defeated man.

"What are you waiting for? Permission? Pull the trigger," Sam said sternly.

"I’m not the one that will pull the trigger," Alex said, looking over at Jason.

"He is..." Alex concluded, Sam watched the tall man slowly get up to his feet.

The wounds on his body were slowly opening up but Sam was glad that he was experiencing all this pain because he was proving to be just as much of a rat as Bella.

"You think I’m going to beg for my life?" Sam said; he noticed that the look on Jason’s face had changed to one of pity.

Sam tossed the knife to the ground and spread his arms apart to welcome the fate that was coming for him.

This was his final test to Jason because if Jason could pull the trigger then there was nothing stopping him from taking the next step in this apocalypse.

Clementine often said that Sam was struggling with his humanity but Sam was intrigued that someone with so much humanity was ultimately taking the same path as him.

This meant that his way was the right way and not Clementine’s.

Jason walked over to Alex and took the gun from him, he took a couple of steps forward because he knew that he couldn’t hit him from range, not with those wounds.

"Put it right through my head, let my brains cover every inch of this room," Sam said.

He didn’t sound like someone scared of death because deep down, part of him believed that Jason wouldn’t do it even though he couldn’t admit it right now.

Jason placed the gun, aimed right at his heart and Sam grinned.

"Do it fucker..." Sam said, and this would prove to be his final words as a gunshot soon drowned out his voice.

Clementine and Rachel hung back, they didn’t know what was going on and the feeling of uncertainty wasn’t a nice one.

Clementine realized that it would have been better for Rachel to stay back because then she would be able to assist Sam to the fullest of her ability.

"I hope Jason’s okay..." Rachel murmured and Clementine understood her concern for him.

Jason was a nice man and she too hoped that he wouldn’t come under harm.

She didn’t know why but she found herself thinking that things would work out.

She wished that she could take them back to camp but it was a good thing she didn’t or Bella would have done more harm than good.

"Surround the area..." A voice said and both ladies quickly ducked down.

"We need to keep more enemies from getting in!" The man said and Clementine noticed that Sam was completely cut off from them with this but there was also nothing she could do about it.

Clementine began to question if things would have been easier if they abandoned Jason because right now, they would be killed at this current pace.

She heard footsteps behind her and quickly swung in the direction but her punch was caught.

"Hello to you too," This person was Bella and Rachel couldn’t believe that she even dared to do this.

"What the fuck did you do Bella!?" Rachel barked in a hushed voice, she couldn’t risk being found out.

"What did I do? I didn’t do shit! I’m not responsible for any of this but right now, I’m afraid that your buddy that went into that building is most likely dead." Bella said out of the blue.

This implied that she had been watching them and the only reason she didn’t approach earlier was because she was certain that Sam would take her head the moment he saw her.

"You shouldn’t have killed whoever you did..." Clementine said; she didn’t hold it against Bella because she didn’t know the situation that Bella found herself in prior.

She might have very well not had a choice but the person she killed was too high profile within these walls for it to be a coincidence.

"I know my words mean little but you have to believe me! I didn’t kill Liam... I could never." Bella said, standing her ground but she was right, her words held very little value.

"I don’t think I need to state the obvious here too but we need to leave... Like now!" Bella said.

"I agree with you, take Rachel and head outside the walls, I’m going in to get Sam," Clementine said.

"Sam is with Alex. He is most likely dead... Would you risk your life even if you aren’t sure if he is alive?" Bella asked and without missing a heartbeat, Clementine responded.

"Yes, because he will do the same for me. NOW GO!" Clementine reiterated.

"Save him," Rachel pleaded and Clementine gave her a reassuring nod as Bella led Rachel away from the chaos that was about to ensue. Bella couldn’t wrap her head around what went through their heads to have such a strange mentality but she had something far more worrying on her mind and that was.

"Who killed Liam?" because it certainly wasn’t her.
