Chapter 454 - 456: Backing
Chapter 454 - 456: Backing
Rose Kenway’s tone was cool and detached; she certainly didn’t sound like she was welcoming them.
Jane Chandler cleared her throat. "I have to ask, have we done something to offend Little Sis Kenway?"
Rose Kenway chuckled. "Isn’t that a question you already know the answer to? I may have been in a coma for many years, but I am perfectly aware of everything that has happened around my daughter."
"You promised to take good care of my daughter. Did you truly honor that promise during my absence?"
Jane Chandler opened her mouth to explain, but Jonathan Shaw was already too ashamed to look up. While he hadn’t known Jane had taken it upon herself to arrange blind dates for Ethan Shaw, he had let her do as she pleased in many other matters.
For all these years, they had indeed treated the girl shabbily.
"During my absence, you made things difficult for my daughter and grandson time and time again, even stooping to something as humiliating as arranging blind dates for Ethan Shaw!" Rose Kenway became emotional, coughing violently.
Naomi Kenway rushed to rub her back. "Mom..."
"I’m fine."
Rose Kenway continued, "If I’m not mistaken, the only reason you did this is that the Kenway Family has fallen while the Shaw Family has become more powerful, so you started scheming anew. Such behavior—kicking someone when they’re down—is utterly shameful."
Jonathan Shaw said, "Rose, I know we’ve wronged you and Naomi in many ways. Please calm down, and we can talk this through."
"There’s nothing to talk about." Rose Kenway’s voice was cold and hard. She had once been the head of her family, and her presence was in no way overshadowed by Jonathan Shaw’s.
"I don’t blame you. I only hate that I wasn’t by my daughter’s side every moment to stop people from bullying her."
"Take all your gifts back. Our Kenway Family is long past its prime; what have we done to deserve the two of you paying a personal visit with such lavish presents? Take them back. I can’t possibly accept them. Butler, show our guests out!"
Jane Chandler looked anxious and was about to speak, but Jonathan Shaw put an arm around her shoulder. He sighed and said, "This will take time. We should go first and not disturb their family reunion."
Jane Chandler felt humiliated. She glared at Ethan Shaw, who stood by, stoic as a mountain, and grew even more incensed.
’After all that, he didn’t even step up to say a few words to help. Anyone who didn’t know any better would think he was the Kenways’ son.’
Jonathan Shaw said, "Let’s go."
Jane Chandler angrily wrenched her arm free, shot Ethan Shaw a glare, and stormed away.
Jonathan Shaw nodded. "I’m sorry for the trouble. We’ll... set up another time."
After they left, Ethan Shaw began, "I’m sorry. I..."
Rose Kenway cut him off. "You don’t need to apologize."
Naomi Kenway, thinking her mother was very unhappy with Ethan Shaw, quickly tried to explain on his behalf. "Ethan’s actually very good to me, Mom, you..."
Rose Kenway smiled. "Look how anxious you are. I hadn’t even finished speaking, and you were already worried I was going to scold him?"
Naomi Kenway’s cheeks flushed slightly, but a smile bloomed in Ethan Shaw’s eyes.
"Alright, seeing you two so happy together puts my mind at ease."
She turned to Ethan Shaw again. "The reason I said you don’t need to apologize is because I know you are not like your parents. You are you, and they are they; I won’t confuse the two. I can see you truly love Nina, and I’m very glad my judgment of you wasn’t wrong. You can be by her side and protect her. In the future, I hope you will always be this good to my daughter. Ian, can you do that?"
"I will not disappoint you."
"Good. I’ll remember you said that." Rose Kenway nodded, smiling in satisfaction.

"Caleb Bishop, I have nothing left! My parents both went to prison, and my mom was even sentenced to death! I can’t save her, I’m in so much pain!"
"Why aren’t you saying anything? Do you love me? After all these years, did you never have even a shred of love for me? When you see me in this state, willing to live or die for you, don’t you feel even the slightest bit of pity or guilt?"
"I’m in so much pain... My mom is going to die, and I feel like I’m dying, too. I don’t know what else I can do. I’ve been crying day and night... I’m really falling apart, I’m so desperate..."
"I’m begging you, can you just hug me? Just do it out of pity, okay? Please, just hug me? I’m in so much pain, it hurts so much, I feel like I’m about to die. I can’t live like this. Just hug me... please, just hug me, okay?"
...
Jeanette Kensington tugged on Caleb Bishop’s sleeve, pleading over and over.
She looked at the man she loved more than anyone, standing before her looking dashing and full of life in his expensive suit.
She, in contrast, was gaunt and haggard, her clothes crumpled like a beggar’s.
Caleb Bishop impatiently shook her arm off and shot a look at a nearby bodyguard.
Someone immediately yanked her away and threatened, "Where did this beggar come from? Can’t you see Mr. Bishop doesn’t want to see you? If you know what’s good for you, back off, or we’ll call the police on you!"
Jeanette Kensington was thrown to the ground. She burst into laughter. "HAHAHAHAHA! Then throw me in prison! Let me keep my parents company. Our whole family can be together! No, that’s not right. My dad already disowned me. I only have my mom, but my mom is about to die. I have no relatives left... I’m all alone..."
Her laughter turned into broken sobs, as if she had gone completely insane.
[Can’t believe you actually bullied your own teammate. You pushed her, she fell so hard she can’t ever dance again. How are you going to pay for that? You ruined her dream. People like you should just die!]
[Dad’s a murderer, mom’s a homewrecker, and you’re a bully. You guys really are the perfect family!]
[Heard your parents both got sentenced. Serves them right. Your whole family is trash!]
[To the person above, get your facts straight. The one who got sentenced was her adoptive father at best. Her biological father, the abusive guy? Didn’t her mom beat him to death? All I can say is, what goes around comes around!]
[You didn’t just bully your teammate. So many people have come forward. Even back in school, you loved bullying anyone more talented or prettier than you. And Nina was your long-term target for bullying and PUA. Why isn’t a scumbag like you dead yet?!]
[My name is Jeanette Kensington. I’m not a person. I’m dead!]
[Your parents are murderers and you’re a bully. It’s definitely in your genes. Don’t you have nightmares? You crippled someone’s leg, slashed someone’s face. Do you feel any remorse at all?]
[Bullying people, PUA-ing them, stealing their fathers, their boyfriends, their families. No wonder Naomi Kenway treats you like crap. If I were her, I’d have tossed you through the ceiling!]
[The funniest part is you spent your whole life trying to steal from her, and you still lost in the end. Finally facing reality? You’ll never be better than her. Ever.]
