System Of The Undead

Chapter 184: I Will Save You!

Chapter 184: I Will Save You!

Jason just witnessed something that had the potential to traumatize him as Clementine lay on the ground. He had hoped that the bullets didn’t penetrate her but the blood on the floor told him otherwise.

Jason’s eyes darkened and the zombie didn’t even know what happened but a blow landed right on its jaw, dislocating it but fracturing the bones beneath his fingers.

This was impressive due to the zombie’s enhanced physiology.

The zombie stumbled to the ground and Jason knew he had to kill it or he wouldn’t be able to attend to Clementine.

Jason mounted the zombie and began to pummel away at its face, he knew he needed to crush the zombie’s skull.

The zombie was visibly distraught as it tried desperately to defend against the barrage of blows but Jason didn’t relent.

It managed to kick Jason away but the force of the kick sent him tumbling back, crashing into the wall.

The impact was cushioned by the nexus and the enhancement it granted him.

Jason managed to get up, he knew there was no time but also noticed that Clementine was trying to tell him something.

The zombie couldn’t seem to fix its jaw but that was because it had used all the body parts that were stored within him.

The zombie’s eyes were fixed on Clementine and began walking towards her.

Jason knew it had every intention of devouring her but the worst thing that could happen came to pass.

Jason’s legs gave way, he had run out of MP and couldn’t even move an inch.

All he could do was lay on the ground like some helpless prey, Clementine knew that her time was around the corner.

"D-Don’t be afraid, Jason," Clementine whispered weakly but Jason began crawling towards her however the zombie got to her first. There was no way that Jason would have gotten close to her in his weakened state.

"No... Please God no!" Jason whimpered, he couldn’t keep up a brave face anymore and it cracked and transformed into tears. Jason couldn’t believe it and called on God to save her even though part of him believed that God had abandoned him.

He watched the zombie pick up Clementine and he knew what came next, however, the dislocated jaw made it impossible for it to bite off her head and devour her brain like other victims.

The fact that it had no choice but to devour her whole meant that it had to kill her first.

It began to choke her out and Clementine noticed what it was doing.

She looked over at Jason before smiling warmly because she knew this might very well be the last time that she saw him.

"Heh! So he cares enough to cry for me? What a wuss," Clementine teased him silently.

"However... I never planned on dying her," Clementine muttered and the zombie instantly recognized it was in danger.

The wound Clementine had wasn’t as serious as she let on, she did some major acting as she wasn’t aware of the intelligence this zombie had.

Clementine knew that if it could see her, it might approach her the moment it saw that she was weak. It had assimilated the gorilla, a creature that was primal and Clementine theorized that it must have absorbed some of that animalistic trait.

The bullets did touch her but her bulletproof vest cushioned it, a vest no one was aware she was wearing, even though it managed to penetrate it; Clementine was prepared for this possibility right from when they left the community to come on this adventure.

This was something that Sam allowed her to wear before they set out from the motel.

Clementine grabbed the grenade that Brayden had given and removed the pin.

The zombie tightened its grip on her neck in an attempt to snap it into two but Clementine’s willpower was superior.

This was one thing that the zombies would never have, they would never have the willpower humans possessed to overcome their adversary.

She dumped the grenade in its mouth before kicking herself away from it, pivoting her feet off its chest to break its hold on her due to the zombie reaching down its throat to try and dig the grenade out of its mouth.

"Boom motherfucker..." Clementine said and a powerful explosion followed, throwing pieces of the zombie everywhere.

Clementine landed a tad bit too hard and injured herself even more due to the existing wound she had acquired.

Jason was speechless, he couldn’t believe that Clementine had taken down a zombie that he could not even touch.

"She is fucking amazing.." Jason thought to himself and he was glad that she was here with him or he would have died.

However, the fact that she had just been shot dawned on him and he crawled to her motionless body.

Jason hoped and prayed that she was alive, he didn’t know where she got the grenade from but it was what saved their lives.

"Clementine!" Jason screamed the moment he was within range of her.

"Stop screaming... Your voice isn’t the last thing I want to hear," Clementine teased.

The moment she did, Jason stopped struggling and just stopped, his entire body was aching.

"I thought you were..." Jason muttered, pausing as he noticed a strange fragment right in front of him.

"What? It wasn’t destroyed?" Jason muttered to himself, there was no way that the fragment should be able to withstand such a powerful explosion.

[[The fragment is the strongest material on earth, it cannot be destroyed by a grenade]]

Chronos informed him and this made sense considering it did fall from the sky.

The fact that it could bypass the earth’s stratosphere was proof of this.

Jason was glad that they managed to make it out of this alive, Clementine was injured but it wasn’t fatal.

Jason reached for the fragment, he had to use it or the infection would spread.

He grabbed it and opened his mouth without hesitation, sticking it down his throat to devour the fragment.

The fragment gave Jason a slight boost in MP, this allowed his body to regain certain mobility.

[[Fragment: 2/4]]

Jason now had the strength to get to his feet, his feet were wobbly but he had enough strength to check on Clementine now.

Jason dropped to his knees and checked her wounds, not that he knew what to do with it.

"You’re something else..." Jason said with a slight snicker, he couldn’t believe that Clementine was this durable.

"Are you going to try and kiss me now?" Clementine teased, sitting up.

"You wish..." Jason responded with a smile.

"How does it taste?" Clementine asked him bluntly.

"How does ’what’ taste?" Jason questioned.

"The fragment, how does it taste? Does it taste like candy?" Clementine asked even in her injured state.

"Yes, Clementine, the fragment that has been inside a zombie tastes like candy..." Jason responded sarcastically and Clementine couldn’t help but giggle at this silly retort.

Jason relied on his map to get the second fragment that managed to fly off a couple of meters away.

He got that fragment and consumed it too, his infection didn’t progress any further because he had absorbed the fragment as soon as the Nexus skill was deactivated.

"How do we get back?" Clementine asked Jason but this should be the least of their problems right now.

Jason needed to close up her wound before it got infected, he couldn’t risk it.

"We need to close your wound... are there any shards stuck inside you?" Jason asked but Clementine wasn’t sure. She was high on adrenaline and it hadn’t hit her yet but she was sure that there were no exit wounds so there was a high chance that it was still inside.

"I don’t think they penetrated that deep or I would be dead... I also don’t think there’s any internal damage," Clementine responded.

"Should I help you to check?" Jason asked but Clementine shook her head.

"I can’t have your fingers in me..." Clementine said but Jason’s eyes lit up because this was a chance for him to give one of the greatest puns ever.

Clementine realized her mistake too late and Jason’s face creased into a grin.

"If you wanted another part of me in you, you should have just asked," Jason said with the most satisfied look on his face.

Clementine rolled her eyes but she couldn’t stick her fingers in her wounds just yet as she didn’t know if help was coming and there was a chance sticking her finger in would do more damage.

This was advisable if there was help waiting but there was none and she didn’t know how far they would need to travel.

Jason had to take Clementine away from the open and into a more secluded area because the zombies would be coming here.

She was bleeding, and they would swarm this area in no time but Jason had to buy time.

Jason knew then he could do something once he got her to a safe space but he expected them to return.
